The Observatory

The Observatory is a photographic practice rooted in attention — a place for images made slowly, at the edges of the built world, where land, time, and people meet.
Each photograph here is an invitation to pause, to notice, and to live with an image long enough for it to become part of a space.

My camera has met cowboys and sailors, hippies and witches. It’s walked with me on high lines stretched between mountains and sat beside me through hundreds of Texas twilights.

Because of it, I swim with sharks, hold hands with orangutans, and watch wildlife vets shoot darts from helicopters at rhinos and elephants.

Again and again, it takes me to the edge of the man-made world — the beginning of the wild.

Again and again, I remember that the line between them doesn’t really exist.

I created The Observatory to share a feeling I don’t yet have the words to describe. My hope is that these photographs add that feeling to your space — a little soul, a little umph, a little ahh.
